COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A mother injured in a Colorado motel fire that killed two of her children has died.
Police say 33-year-old Brandy Jones died Thursday afternoon. Her 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son died also died following Saturday’s fire in their room at the Ranch Motel in Colorado Springs.
Her 10-year-old son also was injured, but police spokeswoman Lt. Catherine Buckley said Friday he is in stable condition and continues to improve.
Investigators say determining the fire’s cause will take some time. They have found the motel lacked working smoke detectors, and the room violated current fire codes.
The Gazette previously reported (http://goo.gl/TD4Ukl ) the detectors were more than 10 years old and had no batteries installed. Electrical issues also were found throughout the complex.
