Elderly central Ga. man killed in house fire

EASTMAN, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say an elderly central Georgia man has died after being pulled from his burning home.

Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith tells The Telegraph of Macon (http://bit.ly/1OEKAcx ) 88-year-old Washington Battle was unconscious when he was found in bed during a fire Friday morning.

Smith says it appears that Battle got up to start cooking, laid back down and fell asleep. Smith says the house appears to be a total loss.

Battle died early Saturday morning and authorities suspect his cause of death was smoke inhalation.
