Ala. church worker indicted on child porn charges

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a church recreation worker has been indicted on child porn charges.

Authorities said in a statement Thursday that 34-year-old Jason Michael Hankins is charged in a four-count indictment with production, receipt and possession of child pornography.

Prosecutors say Hankins worked at the Shades Crest Baptist Church in Hoover and found at least one victim by targeting a single mother through a Christian dating website. Officials say Hankins worked in the church’s Family Life Center.

Court records don’t list an attorney for Hankins and a call to a number listed for him wasn’t answered. Court records say his arraignment is scheduled for July 9.

Authorities say Hankins faces up to 30 years in prison.
