9/28/17, 9:00 a.m. — Valley Investigators have identified the victim as 55-year-old Judith Dawson of Tuskegee. They say upon arrival, officers found Dawson lying in the driveway, dead of an apparent gunshot wound.
Preliminary reports show Dawson and two other females came to the residence and Dawson had a confrontation with the homeowner and the homeowner’s son, 18-year-old Kyle Tassin of Valley.
During the confrontation, two shots were fired. A police statement says a .22 rifle was seized from the residence and a .22 pistol was seized from the body of Dawson. Both weapons had been fired once.
Law enforcement urges folks to not resort to gunfire during a dispute.
“This isn’t the old west,” Maj. Mike Reynolds said. “We don’t solve our problems by dueling or anything like that. If you’re going to get in a confrontation, number one: try to avoid it if possible. Number two: if you think it’s going to turn violent, call the police. Have a standby. Know what your rights are.”
Officials say Tassin was brought to the Valley Police Department for questioning. Officials also say this is still an active investigation and no warrants have been issued.
Police were unable to comment on the nature of the confrontation at this time.
Dawson’s body will be sent State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
