COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus police continue to investigate a Monday night shooting at the Elizabeth Canty Apartments off Cusseta Road.
A newly released police report shows officers are not sure if the victim was involved in a fight with several other people the night he was injured.
The victim tells police he walking home at about 9:20 p.m. He says he was passing a group of people arguing when one person started shooting and a stray bullet hit him in the foot.
However, a witness on the scene tells police they saw four or five people arguing in the street shortly before the shooting. The witness says the victim was fist fighting with one of the men when that man pulled out a gun and shot the victim once in the foot.
The report concludes saying all subjects involved in the fight fled the scene. The witness says the suspected shooter ran towards Cusseta Road yelling, “This is my hood, this is my hood.”
The victim was taken to the hospital in an ambulance for treatment to his injuries.
