Columbus Cottonmouths comeback falls short against Macon, 4-3

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Columbus Cottonmouths struggles at home continued on Friday night at the Columbus Civic Center with a 4-3 loss to the first-place Macon Mayhem.

Columbus trailed 3-0 after the first period, prompting head coach Jerome Bechard to pull goaltender Brandon Jaeger. Jaeger made nine saves on 12 shots.

Newly signed goalie Gordon Ceasar finished the game for Columbus, making 13 saves on 14 shots. The defensive change also sparked the Cottonmouth’s offense in the second period. Columbus got a pair of goals from Derek Gingera, followed by the equalizer from Evan Neugold, tying the game at 3-3 with less than a minute remaining before the break.

The comeback effort was spoiled however when Macon’s Matt Summers scored the game-winning goal with 1:45 remaining in the third period.

Through 17 games the Cottonmouths (5-12-0) are in next to last place in the Southern Professional Hockey League. Columbus is 1-8 at home this season. You can find the full league standings here.

The Cottonmouths travel to Macon Friday, December 17 for a 7:30 pm game against the Mayhem.
