OPELIKA, Ala. — Since 1993, the Victorian Front Porch Tour has delighted visitors during Christmas, and Wednesday it started again.
The tour is a self-guided driving tour on North 8th Street and 2nd Avenue where visitors can view 60 houses decorated for Christmas.
On Saturday, North 8th and North 9th street will be closed so folks can walk the streets and view the festivities. Friday night, the City of Opelika sponsors Christmas in a Railroad Town that includes wagon rides through the houses along with guided tours. Roger Bell with the Victorian Front Porch Christmas Tour said the event is made possible due to the volunteers.
Pam Powers-Smith of Opelika Main Street said, “Christmas in Opelika makes a huge impact everywhere,” “People are coming into town; they are buying gas, eating in restaurants. Once they get into downtown Christmas activities area, they are shopping, they are eating in restaurants there, buying things. This is a huge impact for everybody city-wide.”

The event runs through Sunday.
