COLUMBUS, Ga. – They will carry their flags, bring their bands, and strap on their helmets to play for Alabama high school football state championships in Jordan-Hare stadium.
Along the way, the Opelika Bulldogs and Beauregard Hornets have shattered school records and reached new milestones for their respective programs this season.
Opelika (13-1) will play Ramsay (12-2) for the Alabama High School Athletic Association 6A state championship at 7:00 pm CT on Friday. The 13 wins this season are a school record for a program that first fielded a team in 1917. This will be the Bulldogs second trip to the state championship in program history.
Beauregard (12-1) will take on Wenonah (11-2) for the AHSAA 5A state championship on Thursday at 7:00 pm CT. The Hornets had never been past the quarterfinals until this season.
Lanett’s season came to an end in the AHSAA2A semifinals, 33-20 to Fyffe.
In Georgia, the Callaway Cavaliers continued their undefeated season with a dramatic last second touchdown to beat Screven County 35-34 in the GHSA 2A quarterfinals. Callaway will play Benedictine in the semifinals.
In GHSA 1A, the Manchester Blue Devils fell to Macon County 28-14. Manchester’s only two losses this season came against Macon County.
