COLUMBUS, Ga. — Valley Rescue Mission has been supporting the homeless and hungry for decades.
More than 800 people were able to get a thanksgiving meal on the house.
Development Director Mitzi Oxford says hundreds of people received a Thanksgiving meal on the house.
“We’re so excited because we’re able to feed the hungry and offer the homeless a place to come,” Oxford says. “Not only for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, but to be surrounded by people who love them and care about them.”
Catherine Goodwin has been volunteering for 23 years. She says she keeps coming back to help serve her local community – one plate at a time.
“Year after year I look forward to coming down on Thanksgiving and Christmas,” says Goodwin.
She says volunteering never gets old and she comes to see the smiles on people’s faces – “This is the only meal they get and some people look forward to it and for some people the mission is the only place that will give them food.”
