PHENIX CITY, Ala. — The City of Phenix City announces the area formerly known as 3rd Avenue just off the 13th Street bridge will officially open Monday.

An announcement by the city manager says the street will now be renamed Whitewater Avenue. A grand opening ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. EST Monday, November 28.

Phenix City planners have said the opening will make way for even more businesses to develop along the Chattahoochee River.

3rd Avenue was closed in July of 2015.  Phenix City’s Mayor announced the name change in the same month and said the end result of the construction would be “gorgeous”.

Whitewater Avenue will now host the city’s new parking garage with more than 200 spaces. The road will also provide access to the Troy University building and Courtyard Marriott on the riverfront.
