COLUMBUS, Ga. – Established and budding entrepreneurs of all ages are making strides to innovate the Chattahoochee Valley’s way of life. The RiverCity Foundry hosted their annual Startup Weekend at Troy University’s Phenix City campus.

The weekend event takes prospective ideas and turns them into practical business plans. News 3 caught up with one group, whose focus lies in lifestyle branding. Kim Wilson and Zion Young say they’ve learned so much in the 54 hours they’ve spent building a business.

“From the complete bottom, you make a concept,” Young, a 17-year-old Carver High School student, said. “You pitch it. You go validate it. Make sure it’s an actual, viable thing, a need in the community.”

Wilson says she’s started several web design businesses. However, her goal this time around involved being a little more inclusive.

“You’re never too young,” Wilson said. “You’re never too old. You’re never too inexperienced or shy. You’re never too bold. Anyone can come do this.”

Organizers say Startup Weekend encourages the business community in the Chattahoochee Valley to continue to work to make life better for everyone.
