AUBURN, Ala. – An Auburn man has been arrested for attempted murder.

Police say 32-year-old Tamarius Welch was arrested Saturday after police responded to a domestic violence call around 1 p.m. at home on Wimberley Road.

Officers were given the description of a male brandishing a hand gun and actively trying to fire it at another male. The firearm malfunctioned and the 24-year-old man was able to escape without being injured and police were notified.

After an investigation, Welch was identified as the individual responsible for brandishing the gun and attempting to fire it at the victim. Welch was immediately located by officers and taken into custody on unrelated charges.

Detectives obtained a warrant on Welch charging him with attempted murder and he was arrested on that charge while incarcerated in the Lee County Jail.

Welch is being held in the Lee County Jail on a $75,000.00 bond.
