COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus police are investigating a serious crash that sent one driver to the emergency room.
A police report says officers were called to the crash scene where 52nd Street meets Turner Road on Monday just before 11:30 a.m. Police tell News 3 a car clipped the back of a dump truck, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a telephone pole. Photos from the scene show intense damage to the driver’s side door and a clear imprint where the car wrapped around the pole.
The crash report says the dump truck driver reports the car’s driver was travelling very fast down Turner Road when he crossed the double yellow line.
The report continues that the car’s driver, 19-year-old Dantonio Gaines, was taken to Midtown Medical Center with “serious” injuries. It also says Gaines was not wearing a seat belt.
