OPELIKA, Ala. – The City of Opelika is alerting residents of a possible scam.

The notice says that two customers, one residential and the other a business, were approached by scammers. The residential customer received a phone call and the business owner had someone physically come to their store.

They were told to call 1-800 numbers to pay their bills or their power would be cut off.

Opelika Power Services is a local company and they will not call or visit customers to ask for payment.
