New judicial commission changes: What this means for your tax dollars

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Attorney Katonga Wright is clearing some things up for us Monday..

She says, there are plans underway to expand the judicial commission.

She says the current commission is comprised of seven members.

When the new commission begins working it will be a 12 member party.

Originally, it was a watchdog independent group that would serve as both:  judge and jury.

The new commission will now be broken in to two groups.

“One that investigates complaints and the other one ajudicates complaints so that different people are looking at the issue at separate times,” says Wright.

Wright believes  the amendment was added to the ballot after one of the original members of the commission was reprimanded after alleged sexual assault.

News 3 is working to learn how much funded the original judicial commission and we’re also working to learn- how much  it will cost to fund the new commission.
