Native American bone fragments found off South Lumpkin Road

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Officials say they have found Native American bones at the new Westville site just south of Oxbow Meadows.

The Director of Marketing and PR with Historic Westville says the possible Native American remain was found when archaeologists were working on the area that’s the future home of the new historic Westville.

The coroners office was out at the scene and left after it was determined that it was not a crime scene.

Reports started to surface that this is an Indian burial ground, but Britto says that is not true. The remains are believed to be of the Muscogee Creek Tribe.

The Muscogee Creek Tribe has been notified as part of the investigation. It is not yet clear if there are any ties.
