SELMA, Ala. (AP) – Authorities say a man is dead after attacking a police officer and clerk at a police station in central Alabama.
Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson says the man was killed by a gunshot wound Monday. Jackson was unsure if the wound was self-inflicted or came during the struggle with officers at the Selma Police Department.
The name of the deceased was not released.
Jackson says the incident occurred when the man was arrested on domestic violence charges. Jackson says the man had a box cutter-type blade and cut the throat of the booking clerk. He then struggled with an officer and grabbed a gun before shots were fired.
Jackson says the man fled and officers found him in an old jail cell. The clerk and officer will recover from their injuries.
