UPDATE: 

1:00 P.M. — A representative with Midtown Medical Center says Gautam Patel is out of surgery and remains in “unsatisfactory condition.”

Patel owns the 5 Corner Lotto store on Linwood Boulevard where his son 23-year-old Vatsal Patel was shot and killed during an apparent robbery Sunday night.

COLUMBUS, Ga — A man is dead Monday after an apparent robbery at the 5 Corner Lotto Store at the intersection of Linwood Boulevard and 13th Street.

Coroner Buddy Bryan confirms 23-year-old Vatsal Patel was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:15 p.m. Sunday night. Bryan says Patel’s father owns the business and was also shot in the stomach. He went into surgery Monday morning and his condition is unknown.

The Columbus Police Department says officers cannot comment on the ongoing investigation.
