2 kids, 1 adult dead after Halloween trailer crash

CHUNKY, Miss. (AP) – A coroner says one adult and two children have been killed when the trailer they were riding on was struck on a highway in a small town in eastern Mississippi on Halloween night.

Newton County Coroner Danny Shoemaker says the three were all related to each other. Their names, ages and details about how they were related were not immediately being released late Monday. Shoemaker says two died at the scene of the wreck and one died while waiting for a hospital helicopter.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Capt. Johnny Poulos tells The Associated Press the accident happened on U.S. Highway 80 in Chunky, about 80 miles east of Jackson. He says it appears a vehicle struck a flat-bed trailer carrying people celebrating Halloween about 7:45 p.m. CDT.

Investigators were on the scene late Monday.

NEWTON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Multiple people are dead and several are injured after truck rear ends a trailer full of kids on Halloween.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol got the call around 7:45 p.m. about the collision according to Sergeant Andy West of Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop H.

It happened on Highway 80 in Newton County.

Sergeant West says a Jeep was towing a trailer with kids and adults when an F-150 truck hit the rear end of trailer.

Multiple people are dead as well as multiple people have been reported injured.

The exact number has not been released at this time.

News 3 sister station WJTV was told three helicopters took people to Jackson area hospitals; also some people were transported to Meridian hospitals.
