Thursday football roundup: Area teams pick up big wins ahead of playoffs

COLUMBUS, Ga. – As the high school football playoffs approach in both Georgia and Alabama, some area teams picked up big wins on Thursday night.

Beauregard, No. 7 in Alabama’s class 5A, beat Ben Russell 63-35. Star running back LaDamian Webb racked up 293 yards rushing in the win. The Hornets will host Dallas County on November 4 in round one of the playoffs.

Lafayette, No. 4 in Alabama’s class 2A, improved to 10-0 on the season with a 52-20 win over Notasulga on the road. The Bulldogs will host Collinsville Nov. 4 in the first round of the playoffs.

In private school action, No. 5 Chambers Academy finished a perfect regular season (10-0) with a 41-6 win over Springwood. It is the first undefeated regular season since the school began playing football in 1971.

In Georgia, Carver continued to with their push to grab one of the playoff spots from 4A Region 1 with a 27-3 win over Americus-Sumter. The Tigers, 4-3 in region play, wrap up the regular season at Hardaway on Thursday, Nov. 3.

LaGrange fell at home to Chapel Hill, 26-24.
