OPELIKA, Ala. — The Opelika Police Department announces a man is in jail connected to a child pornography investigation.

At the press conference Thursday, OPD with the Auburn Police Department and the FBI all confirm 31-year-old Kirston Dowdell was arrested on charges of aggravated criminal surveillance and production of pornography with minors.

The FBI and local police release a photo of the concealed camera device.

The OPD press release says cameras were found in the Opelika High School football stadium bathroom and Shug Jordan soccer fields bathroom in Auburn. Police say a third camera was found in an undisclosed location.

The cameras appear to have been hidden in plastic coat racks attached to the walls.

On October 13, police went to Dowdell’s home with a search warrant and found evidence of the bathroom stall videos.

The announcement confirms the videos had minors in them and fewer than two dozen child victims have been identified.

Police say they do not believe any of the videos have been uploaded to the internet at this time. All agencies confirm there is no further threat to the public.

Dowdell is in Lee County Jail without bond.

Anyone with information on Kirston Dowdell or on more victims of this crime should call police immediately.
