Columbus jobless rate one of highest in the state

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The metro Columbus area tops most other cities in Georgia when it comes to jobless rates.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, the area’s unemployment rate jumped to 6.2% in September.

The Albany and Rome metro areas had the same rate, which is the highest in the state.

It’s also nearly a whole percentage point higher than the state’s rate, which is 5.3%, but the area rate is slightly lower than the same time last year when it was 6.6%.
