Sheriff candidates participate in forum

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Muscogee County Sheriff candidates spoke at a forum Wednesday night just 13 days before the election.  Sheriff John Darr, who is running as an Independent, Democratic candidate Donna Tompkins, Republican candidate Mark LaJoye, and write-in candidate Pam Brown all took part in the forum.

Each candidate had a chance to introduce themselves, answer four questions, and provide a closing statement.

“It becomes even more because he or she is in charge of the security of our city buildings.  He’s in charge of the jail,” said moderator, Richard Hyatt.

Some of the topics including funding security at city buildings such as the Government Center and Citizens Service Center.  Candidates also discussed the budget and the high cost of medical care for inmates in the county jail.
