AMERICUS, Ga — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says a man is recovering in the hospital after a police officer shot him during a tussle.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Alec Davis from Post 10 in Americus was chasing a suspect in a gray 2008 Chrysler 300 around Mayo and Oglethorpe Streets.  It happened around one Saturday morning.

That suspect, 40 year old Anthony Mables, got out of his car around the area of Upper River Road and Marvin McNeill Road.  The trooper then tried to restrain Mables.

During the tussle, the GBI says Trooper Davis shot the suspect.
