Athletes of the Week: Manchester Blue Devils

MANCHESTER, Ga. – There are only a handful of undefeated football teams in the area and one of them is the Manchester High Blue Devils. The Devils’ most recent victory has earned them our WRBL Athletes of the Week award.

Well Before the Manchester High football team runs any plays at practice, they have a go through conditioning drills which includes the very challenging Blue Devil Hill. That tough conditioning has obviously paid off for the 8-0 Blue Devils who have been nothing less than awesome this season.

“Most of the offense is based off running and we’ve been doing a great job of that and our o-line has really stepped up for the running game and the passing game and that’s why we’ve been winning so many games,” says Garrett Brown.

“We haven’t been playing as good as we can, but we’re working on it,” says Tre Gamble.

“We’ve been playing very well. Defense has been getting to the ball. For the offense, the running game has been strong, and the passing game is strong. What I like about the team is, we are family. We’re always tight with each other,” says D.J. Jackson.

Head Coach Evan Hochstetler agrees that the team is on a mission.

“We keep it simple. The kids have been working hard since the summertime. We keep it simple on offense and defense. We’re blessed with the talent and the kids, so I’m using them to the best of their ability. They put fourth the work in the weight room and they come out here and try to get better each day. We’re also blessed with an outstanding coaching staff. I’m lucky to be the head coach, with coaches in the offensive and defensive side of the ball,” says Hochstetler.

Now there are still some tough games left for Blue Devils including a November 4th date with the Macon County Bulldogs, a game which could decide the region championship.

“Regardless of what happens in the region championship, we want to try to play as long as we can in the playoffs. And that’s the goal for any top program. You compete for region championships and try to go as long as you can in the playoffs,” says Hochstetler.

And so we say congratulations to the hard working Manchester High Blue Devils football team.
