LEE COUNTY, Ala. — Lee County sheriff’s deputies have their hands full Saturday, as they investigate two murders just hours apart.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones tells News 3 one man is dead and another in custody after a shooting that happened around 8:30 p.m. CDT on Lee Rd. 246. Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says deputies and EMS found 44-year-old Walter Lee III shot in the head at his home. The victim went to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, where he later died at 9:41 p.m. CDT. Investigators believe Lee got into an argument with his brother-in-law Jose Ramirez at his home. Deputies say the argument ended with Ramirez, 34, pulling a handgun on Lee and shooting him.
Investigators were able to log the handgun Ramirez allegedly used into evidence, and law enforcement arrested Ramirez at the home. Ramirez faces a murder charge and is currently at the Lee County Detention Center. continue to work to figure out why the two had a deadly argument. Harris says Lee’s body will go to the medical examiner’s office in Montgomery for an autopsy. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, coroner’s office, and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences are still investigating.
This incident follows an afternoon shooting that claimed the life of a 38-year-old woman.
