COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing three students with the Rising Star Award. They recognized Spencer High School student Jaco Whitely Friday afternoon.
Whitely is in the top ten percent of his class and plays football and golf.
“I think it was special because it was just a small group of us and we had won this award and I think for the law enforcement to recognize us, it is really special for us,” he said.
He was recognized along with Marianna Rendon-Ramirez from Forrest Road Elementary and Jenessa Thompson from Rothschild Leadership Academy.
The three winners were nominated by their schools. The Sheriff’s Office receives the nominations and hands them over to a sponsor choose the winners.
