LaGrange police search for robbery, shooting suspects


LAGRANGE, Ga — LaGrange officers are on the lookout for two men involved in a robbery and shooting at 10 Heard Street. A third suspect was arrested on the scene.

A press release by the department says three suspects approached the victim, Michael Wooten, in his backyard and forced him to give up his valuables.

Police say Wooten tried to run and was shot in the back. He was airlifted to Columbus Medical Center for treatment.

The release continues after Wooten was shot, the suspects approached witnesses George and Shane Nauss who were also robbed at gunpoint.

Officers on the scene say they found Brian Atkinson, a neighbor fitting the description of one of the alleged robbers.

Witnesses confirm to police Atkinson was the person involved in the robberies.

Atkinson is in Troup County Jail and charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

The LaGrange Criminal Investigations Section asks for community help to identify the two additional suspects in this case.
