Eufaula Police say alcohol involved in deadly pedestrian crash Sunday night

EUFAULA, Ala. – Eufaula Police say alcohol played a role in the death of a Eufaula man. Police say the 67-year-old victim died after being hit by a Ford pickup truck at the intersection of South Eufaula Ave. and Davis St.

Police investigated the scene around 9 p.m. CDT. Police chief Steve Watkins tells News 3 the victim was pronounced dead at Medical Center Barbour at 10:27 p.m. CDT. The driver of the pickup truck, Freddie Hill, was not injured according to police.

Hill, 67, was arrested on the scene, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police will not release the name of the victim until his family has been notified. District Attorney Ben Reeves has ordered an autopsy to be performed later this week.

The Eufaula Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash. Further charges may be pending.
