COLUMBUS, Ga. – Columbus Police are on the hunt for the man they say robed a popular food mart on Warm Springs Rd. The masked armed man was last seen headed Northeast on the same road around 11:00 a.m. UR Choice Food Mart store owner Raj Patel says the masked man ran from the CVS next door, burst into the store, and demanded money.
Patel tells News 3 the man took about $2,000. He originally learned of the incident after his wife — the only one in the store at the time — called him. Patel says after managing the food mart for more than 40 years, he’s never been robbed until now.
“Business is good but something like this happens…11:00?” Patel questioned. “Night time would be good but daytime on a busy road, traffic and everything”
Patel says his wife was shaken up at first. However, he believes she and the store’s employees will be fine. He feels that security is adequate, with nine cameras set up in and around the outside of the store. Last Friday, one of Patel’s friends who owns another food mart (also located on Warm Springs Rd.) was beaten and robbed. Patel says he’s just glad everyone is safe.
“Money doesn’t matter, just glad my wife and life are safe,” Patel reflected. “That’s good.”
