AUBURN, Ala. — The Auburn Police Department says officers are looking for a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run Thursday night.

The Opelika-Auburn newspaper reports an emergency call came in at about 7:49 p.m. about a traffic accident involving a pedestrian on Shelton Mill Road near East University Drive.

Captain Lorenza Dorsey tells the newspaper a 28-year-old man was found lying in the roadway with injuries consistent with being hit by a car.

The victim was taken to East Alabama Medical Center by ambulance, but unfortunately he was later pronounced dead.

Dorsey says Auburn police are treating this incident as a traffic fatality.

Police ask the public to be on the lookout for any type of vehicle with front-end damage – primarily to the passenger’s side.

Dorsey also sends a message to the vehicle owner.

He says, “We understand it was possibly and accident and we are asking the driver to come forward and notify us of what happened.
