BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court is refusing to review the appeal of an Alabama inmate condemned to die for the gunshot slaying of a motel clerk in 1987. reports the court rejected the case of death row inmate Doyle Hamm on Monday.

Hamm was sentenced to die after his conviction for fatally shooting Patrick Cunningham during a holdup in Cullman.

Hamm has argued in his appeals that a Tennessee robbery case was wrongly tied to his Alabama prosecution, and he contends his defense lawyers were ineffective during his trial.

Hamm also argues an Alabama court simply published a proposed order by the state attorney general’s office rather than writing its own decision in the case.

The Supreme Court refused to consider the arguments by Hamm.
