PHENIX CITY, AL — Lakewood Primary and Elementary Schools say they are no longer on a lockdown that went into affect after police searched the area for a suspect.

Phenix City police say patrol officers tried to stop a man driving a red Ford F-150 on Summerville Road for speeding at 9 a.m.

Officers say the man jumped out of the moving car and ran into the woods nearby.

Captain Jason Whitten says the department called the Phenix City Board of Education as a precaution in case the suspect got too close to the Lakewood schools.

He says there was no threats toward the schools or indications that the suspect was going to the schools.

Police now believe the suspect has left the area in another car. They say the schools are officially in the all-clear.

Whitten does note there was damage caused to property at two homes on Fletcher Drive, but no one was hurt.
