MONTGOMERY, Al — Alabama’s Secretary of State announces Joe Lovvorn will be certified as the winner of the House District 79 seat after winning the primary held on September 13.
Secretary John Merrill says in a statement no other state party successfully met the requirements to appear on the general election in January. He says because of that, the election is not needed.
“Because no other candidates submitted the required information in order to appear on the ballot, Mr. Lovvorn can be certified as the new representative for HD 79 without holding another, costly, special election,” says Merrill.
The District 79 seat was left empty after Mike Hubbard was convicted on felony ethics charges. He now faces four years in prison.
