COLUMBUS, Ga. – Thursday is the first day of fall and it’s time to decorate those porches with mums from the Valley Rescue Mission.
All of the money from these flowers is sown right back into the Valley’s recovery programs.
The men from the program in Hamilton are the ones who grow them from seeds in the green house.
Mitzi Oxford with the Valley Rescue Mission says their recovery programs are highly esteemed in our community.
“We don’t charge for the recovery programs…it helps pay for that and I can tell you that the people we partner with the law enforcement agencies…judges in drug courts they believe this program is a blessing,” says Oxford.
Oxford says growing and selling the mums helps with more than just raising money, but it’s just good old fashioned therapy for the men. She says it also teaches life lessons about deep growth.
Mums on sale at the Mission on 2nd Ave. from 8am-6pm daily or at Crossroads 8am-4:30pm Mon-Fri and 8am-2pm on Sat.
