Deputies say South Carolina man killed his wife, fled to Georgia

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a Berkeley County man killed his wife and then fled to the Savannah, Georgia, area where he was arrested.

Chief Deputy Mike Cochran tells local media outlets that 40-year-old Vanessa Ruth Hilton was found dead in her home in the Sangaree area Wednesday. Authorities say she had been beaten to death.

Hilton’s 39-year-old husband Shon Hilton was arrested later Wednesday on federal property near Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Cochran says Hilton is being held on unrelated federal charges and is being charged with murder in South Carolina. It was not immediately known if Hilton had an attorney.

Cochran says the slaying resulted from a domestic dispute.
