COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) — The Georgia State Patrol says a man, his 9-year-old son and 6-month-old grandson from Covington were killed in a head-on crash with a Newton County school bus.

Media outlets report that the GSP identified the victims Tuesday as 37-year-old Sammie Lee Sawyer Almore Jr., 9-year-old Daysean Mark Green and 6-month-old Malcolm Christian-Worthey.

Almore’s wife, 39-year-old Dessie May Christian, was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center and their daughter, 7-year-old Sashie Green-Almore, was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

The crash happened 3 p.m. Monday when a BMW, driven by Almore, traveling northbound on Highway 162 crossed the center line and struck a school bus head-on.

There were no children on the bus, and the driver was not injured.

No drug or alcohol use is suspected in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
