Mississippi man dead after early morning crash on Highway 80

UPDATE: The crash claimed the live of 60-year-old Dallas Hamilton of Laurel, Mississippi when the 2013 Ford pickup he was driving collided with a 2015 Mack tractor-trailer.

The crash occurred Wednesday at 5:20 a.m. on U.S. 80 at the 185 mile marker, 15 miles east of Tuskegee.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the accident.

MACON COUNTY, Ala — State troopers say one person is dead after an accident between a pickup truck and a tractor trailer on U.S. 80 near County Road 24..

ALEA Sergeant Steve Jarrett says in a news release the crash happened at about 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. He says the tractor-trailer was hauling tires and caught fire during the accident.

Jarrett says the tractor-trailer is still burning and the Highway 80 is blocked while crews work to contain the scene.

Jarrett advises drivers to find an alternate route.
