This weekend Paws Humane of Columbus is holding a mega adoption event, for large breed dogs.
It’s all part of Petsmart’s 2016 National Adoption Weekend.
During this time all dog adoptions will be free to the right home.
Starting Friday afternoon the Petsmart in Bradley Park Crossing will be working to adopt out forty dogs.
Representatives say their goal is to adopt the dogs out from five shelters that comprise the Pet Coalition.
They say large breed dogs are the most at risk.
We caught up with the Kathryn Genova, the Executive Director of Paws Humane in Harris County to explain why.
“They usually languish at the shelter. They’re usually the first ones on the euthanasia list. So we’re actually…our coalition is focusing on those hard to place dogs. So big large events like this really are our best option for these dogs and get them off death row and get them with forever families,” says Genova.
The free adoption event will run from two to seven Friday evening, 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and from noon until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Representatives say, since first adopting out the pets more than 17 thousand have been adopted from the Bradley Park Petsmart in Columbus.
