AUBURN, Ala.- At Friday morning’s board of trustees meeting, Auburn President Jay Gogue recommended that the board begin the search for a new president.

President Gogue said, “Susie and I have had a blast at Auburn the past 10 years. We’re not going anywhere, but we decided it’s time to step down as president next year and begin the next phase of our lives.”

Trustees Raymond Harbert, Mike DeMaioribus and Sarah Newton will serve as representatives of the board on the search committee .

Raymond Harbert is the chairman of the search committee. Harbert said an executive search firm has been engaged for the search, and the search committee will be formed over the next couple of weeks. Harbert said Gogue signed an original five-year contract in 2007, and a second five year contract that was set to expire in 2017.

Harbert said he believes many will apply for the job, and it will usher in a new era for the university.

“Jay is going to be very difficult to replace,” Harbert said. “Jay came to Auburn at a very difficult time. He is leaving it and will leave it a much better place.”
