Police arrest suspect in Columbus teen’s death

COLUMBUS, Ga — Columbus police confirm a 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection to the death of a fellow teen.

Police say Giovanni Montesclaros was arrested Wednesday and charged in the death of 15-year-old Justin “JP” Johanson. As News 3 reported, Johanson was run over by a car early in the morning on Sunday, September 4.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says the driver was traveling on River Road near the intersection with Bradley Park Drive when she hit the victim lying in the street.

Montesclaros is charged with purchasing alcoholic beverages for minors, providing false statements and writings, furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 years of age, possessing a false identification document, attempting to purchase alcohol by misrepresenting identity.

Muscogee County Jail records say Montesclaros left jail on bond Wednesday evening.
