COLUMBUS, Ga — A man wanted in connection to a Labor Day brawl that ended with another man dead has turned himself in.
Columbus police say 51-year-old Merrick Redding surrendered himself Monday night. They say Redding was wanted for the death of 47-year-old Joseph Davis.
Witnesses say Redding and Davis were arguing during a Labor Day barbecue on Bond Avenue. One witness says when they turned around again, Davis was lying on the ground with a wound to the head.
Police say Davis was taken to Midtown Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Redding makes his first court appearance Wednesday at 9 a.m.
