1 dead after car, semi-truck collide on Manchester Expressway

MIDLAND, Ga — One man is dead after his car crossed over the median and hit a semi-truck on Manchester Expressway near the on-ramp to County Line Road, Columbus police confirm.

A police report says the accident happened at about 12:45 p.m. Monday afternoon. The report says 55-year-old Flint Sharpe of Smiths Station was driving southbound on Manchester Expressway when his car suddenly crossed over the median into the northbound lanes.

Police say he was hit by a semi-truck heading in the correct direction of traffic. The report goes on to say the semi-truck swerved after the crash and crossed over the median into the southbound lanes before hitting a tree on the opposite side of the roadway.

Sharpe was declared dead on the scene. The semi-truck driver told police he was not injured and refused medical attention.

A third vehicle was hit by the debris of the crash, but no one in that car was hurt, according to police.

Police now say they are working to find out why Sharpe left his lane.
