East Alabama Medical Center holds relief drive for flood victims

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — An east Alabama hospital is collecting items for Louisiana flood victims.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports the East Alabama Medical Center is holding a flood relief drive for Louisiana hospital employees affected by the floods last month.

Clothing donations won’t be collected by the center. The center will¬†collect cash, household items, toiletries, cleaning and school supplies, pet food, cases of water and other items.

An estimated 150,000 homes across south Louisiana were ravaged by the floodwaters.

A hospital chaplain came up with the idea to reach out to the Opelika-Auburn area for flood relief after seeing a story on Facebook about a Tennessee hospital, which sent supplies to hospitals in affected areas.

Donations will be sent to seven hospitals in Baton Rouge.
