OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — An east Alabama hospital is collecting items for Louisiana flood victims.
The Opelika-Auburn News reports the East Alabama Medical Center is holding a flood relief drive for Louisiana hospital employees affected by the floods last month.
Clothing donations won’t be collected by the center. The center will collect cash, household items, toiletries, cleaning and school supplies, pet food, cases of water and other items.
An estimated 150,000 homes across south Louisiana were ravaged by the floodwaters.
A hospital chaplain came up with the idea to reach out to the Opelika-Auburn area for flood relief after seeing a story on Facebook about a Tennessee hospital, which sent supplies to hospitals in affected areas.
Donations will be sent to seven hospitals in Baton Rouge.
