RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala. – A volunteer at the Russell County Corner’s Office has been arrested. Sheriff Heath Taylor says 43-year-old Willie Forte, Jr. was stealing prescription drugs that were picked up by the coroner’s office when they are called out to the scene of a death.
He was arrested for theft and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. Sheriff Taylor says the coroner’s office picks up the prescription bottles belonging to deceased persons. The coroner’s office then brings those bottles to the sheriff’s office to dispose.
“Prior to them dropping stuff off to us, we think the evidence will show that Willie was taking some bottles out of those bags and turning the rest in. Things like Oxycodone and Xanax,” Sheriff Taylor said.
Taylor says it’s possible Forte was giving the drugs to another suspect who was then selling them and giving Forte a cut of the profit.
