NEWARK, NJ — First responders say two public transit buses crashed at a New Jersey intersection, killing one of the drivers, injuring the other and also 19 riders.
Photos from the scene show one of the buses appears to have “t-boned” the other, splitting the second bus nearly in half. Responders say the crash happened around 6 a.m.
Police say the driver of the oncoming bus was pronounced dead at the scene. They say there were no passengers on his bus at the time.
Police also say there were 19 riders on the second bus that was hit. All of them and the driver of that bus were taken to a local hospital for their injures.
Sources say seven people are still in critical condition.
CBS network footage immediately after the crash shows at least five fire trucks and multiple ambulances treating injured people in the road and median.
Both buses had the NJ Transit Bus logo on them.
