Police chase ends with three people in hospital, charges pending

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Columbus Police have three people in custody following a chase that resulted in a crash. Police say it happened around 6 p.m. Sunday. Officers were chasing a white Ford Focus that matched the description of another vehicle involved in a burglary.

As the driver of the Ford turned onto the intersection of 7th St. and Coolidge Avenue, the driver then crashed into a pole. The car then collided with a Columbus Police patrol vehicle. Police tell News 3 the patrol vehicle suffered minimal damage, but the Ford was totaled. The driver tried to run away. However, police caught up to him, and arrested him.

News 3 is working to get the suspect’s name, as well as the passengers he was carrying in the car. The driver and two passengers all went to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Charges are pending for each person involved. One lieutenant tells News 3 the driver will face attempting to elude and reckless driving charges at minimum.
