COLUMBUS, Ga — A brother is in prison and his sister is a free woman after a judge sentenced the two of four suspects in the 2014 fatal Super 8 Motel shooting,
21-year-old Christopher Womack and his sister 19-year-old Niesha Jones receive their sentences for the death of 39-year-old Troy Saunders. Saunders was killed during an attempted robbery back in January 2014.
Police say Saunders was shot at the Super 8 Motel in the 2000 block of Warm Springs Road. He was reportedly there to buy marijuana.
Judge Frank Jordan Jr. sentenced Womack to the maximum penalty for a voluntary manslaughter charge — 20 years in prison. Court records say Womack was convicted by a jury in May.
Jordan sentenced Jones to seven years for aggravated assault, with two years served in jail and five on probation. Jones left the court with credit for time served since she already waited in jail for two years during her trial.
Two codefendants Trevon Brown and Mayson Deandrea Gibson pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery on July 6. Both were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
