COLUMBUS, Ga — A brother and sister accused in a 2014 drug influenced murder appear in court Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
The court schedule says 19-year-old Niesha Jones is expected to accept a guilty plea for the murder of 39-year-old Troy Saunders. Jones pleads guilty of murder, aggravated assault, and attempted armed robbery.
Her brother 21-year-old Christopher Womack was found guilty in May of manslaughter, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon while committing a crime. He was found not guilty of murder. The court’s schedule says Womack will appear before a judge Thursday to receive his sentence.
Police say Troy Saunders was found dead back in January 2014 after he was shot at the Super 8 Motel at 2935 Warm Springs Road. He was reportedly there to buy marijuana.
News 3’s media partner The Ledger-Enquirer’s report says Jones lured Saunders and a friend to the hotel by promising to sell them weed. She says she and her co-conspirators were actually planning to rob the two men.
Saunders was shot while trying to drive away from the scene and bled out near the Burger King at 3101 Gentian Blvd.
Jones testified at her brother’s trial that Trevon Brown and Mayson Deandrea Gibson were also in the hotel waiting to rob Saunders and his friend, Joseph “Joey” Wilkes. Brown and Gibson both accepted plea deals last month and were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
