1 teen dead, 1 seriously injured in Fort Mitchell crash, Ala. troopers confirm

FORT MITCHELL, Ala — Alabama state troopers confirm a 15-year-old was killed when the car he was in hit a tree Wednesday morning.

Corporal Jesse Thornton says the teen was a passenger in a 2014 Ford Explorer when the car went off Duke Drive at about 10:45 a.m. He says the crash was about 15 miles south of Phenix City.

Thornton says the boy was taken to Columbus Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He says the girl who was driving the car is still at Columbus Regional with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
